Fundraiser

Owen and I decided to bake cookies and brownies today. A group of Edgewood residents are holding a fundraiser/bake sale tomorrow with the proceeds going to the James Sanders family. The youngest son (who was home at the time and witnessed his stepfather's murder) is in 4th grade at my mom's school. I can't even imagine the pain that family is going through. And I HATE that it happened in Edgewood, where I grew up.

So Owen and I spent a couple hours in the kitchen together today. We chose snickerdoodles because they are my specialty (yes, I'm tooting my own horn... they literally melt in your mouth!). Even though Owen is too little to understand, I think it's important to start having him get involved with things like this. I want him to have compassion for those who are sick, hurting, weak, less fortunate, etc. I want my kids to have big hearts.

Here's Owen, checking out the goods:
Now he's stirring the brownies. Such a good helper. And finally, he's doing his famous belly rub while saying "mmmmmmm!"
PS Wouldn't my kitchen look great with a glass mosaic tile backsplash? Maybe some copper and bronze? I've been putting in a few heavy hints lately.

Over $30,000 was made at the fundraiser for the Sander/Kittleman family. How cool is that? Thank you Mandy and Owen.
