We spent the 4th at Juan and Jen's, our neighbors. Well, we split the night between their house and ours. That's the best thing about partying in your neighborhood.. you can hang out at
the party but stay close to the house and dogs, just in case! Chris had to work but was able to spend an hour at the BBQ. The above picture was taken when I brought Owen home to feed him. He conked out while eating, so I figured he was out for the night and would miss the fireworks. However, after a 10 minute power nap, he was up and ready to go. A few of our neighbors were lighting some huge fireworks so I stuck Owen in his stroller and walked back to Juan and Jen's. I was a little worried about the loud sounds startling him, but he was great.
So our holiday was nice. The dogs did unusually well this year, the house and surrounding fields did not catch on fire, and my child enjoyed the festivities without any meltdowns. I was sad that Chris was working, as I don't think we've spent the 4th together in seven or eight years. But Owen and I made the most of the day and had fun together. (This is a picture of Owen watching the fireworks.)Laura's home from a 3-week stint in Alaska. She hopes to be called back soon.
