First Fever

We experienced Owen's first fever a couple days ago. I thought it was odd when he slept in until 9:30am. He's been pretty consistent with waking up between 7-8am. He's normally pretty smiley and talkative when he wakes up but he wasn't giving me the big smiles that I've come to look forward to. Over the next couple hours he became increasingly fussy and by the time Chris woke up at noon, he was screaming and I couldn't console him. I laid him down so I could just observe him for a minute and he started pulling on his ears. Well crap, I started to think he had an ear infection. Chris did a quick Google search and said we should take his temp, so we did (and Owen cooperated) and it read 102.1. I called the Hypochondriac Hotline (the nurse line at our doctor's office...I've called a few times before and they are wonderful) and they said to bring him in. Chris draped a cool cloth over Owen which apparently worked, because by the time we arrived at the office, we had our sweet boy back. The fever had broke. His ears were fine and there were no other symptoms. So it's a mystery and we were told to just keep an eye on him.

I also had the doctor check a rash on Owen's neck, which turned out to be a small yeast infection. It's from sweat, formula, spit-up, etc collecting in the fat folds of his neck. Just lovely...I swear I wash him good! The doctor said it's very common and told us to just treat it with Lotrimin. It cleared up by the next day.

By the way, his weight was 14 lb 11 oz, so he's doubled his birth weight. What a little piggy. He's got a healthy appetite just like his Dad!

May be teething... That is when we started with the fevers.
