Owen's been working on sitting up this past week. He doesn't like to be cradled anymore, or sit in a reclined position. He wants to be held like a "big boy" and he prefers to sit at a 90-degree angle. It's fun to watch him learn...he will rock his body to gain momentum so he can sit up straight. He's also figuring out how to use his arms and hands, and will grab onto my hand to pull himself up. I know it sounds like nothing, but the psychology student in me just loves to watch him learn.
Mom and I took Owen to visit Grandma and Grandpa in Selah on Friday. Chris was working o/t so I thought it would be nice to get out of the house for a while. Sandra and Hal stopped by and were finally able to meet Owen. We had a nice visit with them before they took off to their lake house for the weekend. Grandpa pulled out the accordion and Owen and I danced to the music. Mom and I washed their dog and gave her a quick haircut. We visited for a while longer and headed home around 5pm. We'll try to go back again in August. Chris and I want Owen to spend lots of time with his extended family.

was uploading these pictures and picking which ones to use for this post, I realized how much I love the pictures of my Grandpa feeding Owen. There's something really special about seeing a strong man cradling a tiny helpless baby. I grew up watching my Grandpa nurse sick and injured animals back to health and he's a big reason that I love animals the way I do. (He's also the reason I'm a vegetarian, because he said something that grossed me out. That was the end of meat for me.) He's so loving toward creatures too small or weak to defend themselves. So when I see these pictures of him giving Owen his bottle, it makes me think of how gentle and caring he is. I really love my Grandpa :)
On Saturday Owen and I went to Chris' cousin Michelle's bridal shower. Several of us met at Kathy's house and party trained it to the shower. They had a frozen drink machine with unlimited margaritas and daquiris. Had I known that, I would have arranged for a babysitter and designated driver! We had a nice time and I'm glad Michelle got to meet Owen.
And lastly... Owen finally spent his first night alone in his room. Chris has been giving me some crap because I always said any baby of mine would be in his/her own room by 8 weeks. Well he is 14 weeks today and Chris kind of made the executive decision that Owen should go in his own room. We set up the monitor and put him in his crib and he fell right asleep. He ended up sleeping until 7am, then fell asleep after his bottle until 10am! It was kind of sad for me to be away from him. As I was falling asleep, I was thinking that he and I have spent every night together in one way or another since August of last year when I got pregnant. Pathetic, I know. But I really love him a lot :)
