One Month Old

It's so weird to think that Owen's a month old! Some days it feels like we have had him forever and it's hard to remember what things were like before he came along. Then there are days where it feels like I was just in the hospital having him placed on my chest for the first time.

We had his one-month doctor's appointment today. We were most interested in knowing how much he's grown because we can tell he's heavier but we never know just how much. He weighed in at 9lb 4oz and is 21.5in long so all the food that Little Piggy has been consuming is obviously sticking to his bones. He's in the 50th percentile for length and head circumference, and 40th in weight. So he's pretty close to average (slightly string-beanish). He was due for his second Hepatitis B vaccination and when the nurse poked him, his face scrunched up and he sucked air for about 6 seconds before turning beet red and belting out one of the loudest wails I've heard out of him. When he ran out of air, he became silent again, inhaled for another 6 seconds and screamed again. Poor little guy, but of course he was just fine within a couple minutes.

We bought him an activity gym that he seems to enjoy. He's still too little to know how to interact with it much but he likes the lights and music, and stares at the bright colors. When we turn him onto his tummy, he's learning how to lift his head. He tries to scoot on his tummy and can make it a little ways if he has something to push his feet off of. He's starting to make facial expressions and can smile at us. The day-to-day development is so much fun for us to watch.
