Chris Back at Work

Tonight is Chris' first night back on patrol. He trained officers on our new reporting system at work from January until April and has been at home with Owen and me for almost 2 months. So it's been a while since he's been in a patrol car. The department has made all kinds of changes to the squads and districts, so he's with a new group of guys in a new area of town (he's still down south). He has a new sergeant who he likes. However the squads are self-relieving now so the guys all have different nights off. It's sad because it means the end of the big squad parties. We can only hang out with a couple people who share Chris' furlough pattern.

It's definitely strange to have him working again. I was starting to get spoiled having him around so much! I know I'm lucky though, because not a lot of new dads can take off as much time as he did.

Owen is almost 7 weeks old and continues to make progress every day. He can hold his head up for several minutes now and is getting better at propping himself up while on his tummy. I noticed a little dimple on his cheek yesterday when he smiled. He's learning how to use his facial muscles and makes some rather interesting expressions! He is becoming much more aware of the things around him and loves to stare at lights and different colors. We ate at The Ram a couple nights ago and he loved all the neon lights. We didn't have a lot of privacy during our meal because so many people stopped to compliment us on how cute he is!

Chris and I are starting a weight-loss competition on Sunday. He wants to lose 40lb and I want to lose 30. We're still ironing out the rules and incentives but I plan on kicking his butt. If anyone wants to join in the fun (of losing weight, not beating on Chris), email me!
