It's Thanksgiving, Charlie Brown

I'm working a 12-hour day today. Although it's hard to be away from family on the holidays, being at work isn't all that bad. Thanksgiving and Christmas are usually pretty quiet, and today has been no exception (so far). As the night goes on however, we'll likely see an increase in DV-related incidents. People in this insane city drink too much and they fight with relatives who overstay their welcome. My favorite call from last year was "my mother-in-law has been here for 2 days and she will NOT leave. Please get her away from me".

Chris happened to have the day off so he's having dinner with his family, I think. Laura's off somewhere in the Mexican Riviera, hopefully enjoying warmer temperatures than the 30 degree nights we've been having.

Speaking of Laura...I dropped her off at the airport Monday morning and it was HARD. She had a lot of luggage and asked me to go in with her and I obliged. Only Laura gets that kind of treatment from me (because it entails paying to park, which I don't like to do). I helped her get checked in and we said goodbye. As soon as I turned to walk back to the car, I lost it. And yes, I cried the whole way home. But I'm just going to blame it on pregnancy hormones..yeah that's it. I'm still tough :) She and I have been in contact during the past couple days and she's making new friends. One of the assistant directors is from Zagreb which will probably be of interest to my grandpa. She said it's going to take some time getting used to the new ship (ms Ryndam) and its layout. I will be sure to post some of her pictures on here as soon as I receive them from her.

Chris and I signed paperwork on the house yesterday, and it's officially ours. Our POD (portable storage unit) was delivered and we might start unloading some things tomorrow. I think we've roped in a couple of suckers to assist us. If you mention "food" to Chris' friends (particularly Eric Werner), they will be at the doorstep before you can even hang up the phone.

So yeah, this post kind of became longer than I really wanted it to be, but whatever. It killed some time. And if anyone has read this far, you deserve $10. Contact me and I will pay you (with cash from Chris' wallet).

Mandy and Chris have been at my house since August 9, 2007.
I have not felt the need to call
9-1-1 to have them removed....yet.

Hi Mandy-
Hey- reading the blog- I have been very entertained and informed by it,and therefore, do not require the $10, as you have saved me from renting something from blockbuster, or like reading a book or something.
So thanks, blog lady, and keep on bloggin....Your elder karaoke cousin....
