Mt. Rainier Again

We were going to head to Snoqualmie Falls today. Then I won two Puyallup Fair tickets and food dollars on Facebook, so we thought about hitting the fair again. However, Chris and I went to the fair without kids the other night and are Puyallup-ed out. We changed our minds again and decided on a classic car show instead. But on a whim, decided to head back up to Mt. Rainier. The mountain has always held a special place in my heart, as my grandpa and my dad have both climbed it. (My dad keeps bugging me to climb it too. I will someday.) It's become a favorite destination for Chris and me.

We didn't realize they were waiving admission today until we arrived at the entrance. Great, that meant it was going to be crowded with douchebags. However, we knew that most people would be spending their time at Longmire and Paradise, so we drove past both places (which were indeed packed) and found plenty of peace and quiet a little ways down the road. I wanted to hike to Snow Lake so we found the trailhead, got the boys situated, and took off.

The hike is less than 3 miles roundtrip but it took us over two hours. The elevation gain was only 700 feet but we had to take it slow, for Chris is still nursing his weak knee. On top of that, he had to put Owen on his shoulders at times due to some mud on the trail which didn't help with the knee situation. Logan slept, as he usually does when he's in the carrier. We made it to Snow Lake and rested on some rocks for a little while before heading back to the car.

We ate a great picnic lunch (well, maybe it was considered dinner as it was after 5pm) and headed home. Another fun day doing something that we love :)
