Seattle Police: 2
Cop Killers: 0
A huge wave of relief has swept across law enforcement families, as well as the entire community. I'm not going to describe Chris' involvement, but we'll just say that he was the second officer at the scene and he and all the responding officers came home safe. For me, the next step will be making mental preparations for the memorial, which without a doubt is going to be very difficult to attend.
While everyone is feeling relief, we can't forget that there are creeps out there who have no regard for human life and have a genuine hatred toward police. My stomach aches when Chris is at work now. I just keep reminding myself that Chris is an excellent cop who takes officer safety VERY seriously. He is also surrounded by smart, hard-working colleagues who watch out for each other. So that's what I hang onto. Stay safe out there everyone.
On a side note, I thought I'd mention a couple of upcoming fundraisers for the slain officers' families. On Dec 8 and Dec 9, Papa John's Pizza will donate 100 percent of their profits to the fund (applies to all stores in Pierce, King and Kitsap counties). And on Dec 12, Applebee's in Bonney Lake will donate twenty percent of their profits to the fund. Beware of phone solicitors asking for donations, as they are most likely a hoax.
To our law enforcement friends: As a thank you for your service, police, fire, and military personnel are invited to attend this Saturday's UW football game free of charge. Just show the appropriate ID at the UW ticket office this week and they will give you up to 4 tickets.
