Update About Nothing

We haven't been up to anything terribly exciting lately but we've been staying busy as usual. Our to-do list around the house had been growing so we decided to knock the list down. The project that makes me most happy was re-vamping the lawn. We had a bit of a grass seed mishap and long story short, I had a miserable summer because of it. So now that it's cooled off, we bought a thatching blade for the mower, scalped and thatched the lawn, fertilized and reseeded. This time with my preferred Scott's High Traffic. It's already looking gorgeous and I'm very happy.

One of my projects has been restoring two (very old) light fixtures from our 1918 cabin. Buying new fixtures was never even discussed because the old ones really fit the rustic style of the cabin. The project has taken me longer than I'd hoped (a month as opposed to a week or two) because I ran into some major rust issues. However, hammered finish paint hides a lot of imperfections! I changed the lamp bases from gold to copper and replaced the frosted glass with clear. Chris re-wired them, and we will head to the mountains this week to install them. I'm so pleased with the results.

Moving on to an Owen update... A week shy of 17 months, he's been having fun brushing his own teeth. He definitely has a mouthful of teeth. He also likes to brush hair (his own and ours) but I have to admit, his method hurts if you have long hair. For some reason, Owen's been preferring the Spanish setting on his toys. I think I'm bilungual now.. "Cutamos, bailamos, cuando nos tocan los tambores". He's still a pro sleeper (9pm-9am, love it). I think he's the most active kid on the planet and he wears us out, but he's a lot of fun.

Looking forward to the 6-state road trip in October!

Hey do you like the thatching part for your mower? Do they fit all mowers or just certain types?
Your comment about Owen makes me laugh....Alyssa is going through the same stuff...she freaks out when I try to brush her hair and wants to do it herself...Lord help me when its longer and such!

Hey Paula. The thatching blade is universal so it fits all mowers. I think ours cost around $20. It worked well and was much easier to maneuver than the big thatcher that you rent. Plus, it's kind of ridiculous to rent the machine every year when you can just buy a blade for that cheap. And it's easy enough to where I could attach it myself with no male assistance :)

Hey, where did you buy the thatching blade? Ours needs that! Whats your 6 state road trip? We'll be in Cali in November.
