Selah

We had a wonderful time with my family in eastern WA. April was declared "milestone birthday month" because Grandma turns 80, Kelley turns 30, and Owen turns 1. (Paul and Drew also celebrate their birthdays in April.) We headed over on Friday afternoon, and the rest of the group showed up Saturday. We had a huge spaghetti dinner and watched the Michigan State/UConn game. (Paul went to Michigan State so he was excited, but not dance-on-the-table excited that I kind of hoped he'd be.) Charlie and Allie were even able to join us on a live video chat from Belgium, thanks to the magic of Skype.

The part Chris and I were most excited about was to watch Owen destroy a giant birthday cupcake. He sat at the head of the table with the other April birthday honorees, and when it was time to dig in to the cupake he just sat there and stared at it. It reminded me of Santa Claus, how he just sat there and stared blankly at the camera! Chris handed him a spoon, and he started eating the icing with it. Seriously, only my kid would eat his first birthday cupcake with a utensil.

I wanted good pictures, so Kelley put the cupcake up to his mouth and got him started. He seemed to get the point, and proceeded in making a mess! It was great to watch, and we have some good pictures and video. (I'll post a video in the next day or two.)

Owen also scored some early birthday gifts, including some new wheels from his great-grandparents! Owen learned how to ring the bell right away. My grandma was so excited to give him a Radio Flyer!

So all in all, it was a fantastic trip and I was so sad to see it come to an end. Chris and I had fun with my cousins, our dogs got to see their "dog cousins", and Owen was his usual party-animal self. However, it's time to move our focus to the rest of this crazy month...
